Halifax Recieve £1750 Grant Award from West Yorkshire Police

Mick Rowe & Phil Murgatroyd from halifax police boxing have recieved £1750 from the West Yorkshire Police Grant Awards 2011, the club intend too replace equipment damaged due to flooding and burglary, and will attract more young people and help develop their skills and encourage them to become coach’s and hopefully move onto teaching themselves.

Bradley Smith Wins First Bout

Bradley Smith the eleven-year-old, 29kg Queensbury boxer won his first bout on Wednesday night at the Trades Club in Rotheram on the Malthouse ABC show. Bradley has only been at the Halifax Police ABC club Old Lane for six months and has showed great promise. Mick Rowe Senior Coach for the club says Bradley is every coaches dream, since walking into the club he has shown great character, he trains very hard and listens to the coaches at all times, at only eleven he goes on the runs organised by the clubs running coach Chris Godridge which can be as far as six mile a session and Bradley beats most of the adults. On Wednesday 26th October Bradley was matched against Malthouse ABC’s local boxer Rory Hutton, both boxers were keen for a first win but the Halifax boxer showed no nerves in his first boxing match and dominated from the start, the Rotherham boxer tried hard but received a count in the first round when the Halifax boxer landed his first big right hand of the match. The same happened in the second says Rowe who was surprised the referee didn’t stop the match after the second count but this was due to the plucky Malthouse boxers will to win in front of his home crowd, however, a further count in the third was too much when Bradley Smith landed another strong right to win unanimously. The club is looking forward to it’s first show of the season on the 11th November at the clubs base Lady Ship Mills, Old Lane. Tickets are now at the club or by ringing Mick Rowe 07870 266002.

Daniel Robinson Makes Debut

Daniel Robinson made his debut for Halifax Police Boxing Club on October 6th Thursday night away at Phoenix Fire ABC in Warrington against Stuart Shaw also making his debut. In a highly entertaining fight the first round started with Shaw piling on the pressure in front of the baying home fans catching Danny with numerous Jabs straights and hooks with Danny covered up well and took all shaw had to give, unfortunately for Danny his head guard came off twice in the opening minute barrage much to the anger of the crowd. Danny though continued pushing forward and finally warmed to the fight and had the tired Shaw up against the ropes as the first round came to an end. The second round started much more evenly with both boxers trading punches, towards the middle of the round Shaw looked to have punched himself out with Danny again pushing Shaw back onto the ropes but unfortunately Shaw caught Danny with a clean right hand knocking Dannys head guard out of place for a third and final time. ABA rules state that a head guard knocked out of place 3 times means an instant stoppage to the fight. Dannys first fight came to an end as a loss but he can take a lot of experience away with him in a fight he could have easily won had the fight gone to the third round. Martin Murray british champion and who challenges Felix Sturm in december congratulated the Halifax boxer on a great display. Mick Rowe senior coach for the club said this was the second time we had lost to poor equipment, we are looking for a sponsor to replace the old headguards. Meanwhile Danny is looking forward to his next fight on Halifax s first show of the season at there headquarters in ladyship mills old lane ovenden on the 11th November Friday fight night.

HALIFAX GRAMMAR- Currently have 2 classes a week in the club. Wednesday 2 – 3 & Friday 2-3.

HALIFAX HIGH – Have our coaches taking classes on friday mornings at the school.

POSITIVE FUTURES PROJECT CHALLENGE – Have classes every wednesday in the club from 11-12.

MOUNT PELLON PRIMARY – Have classes in the school every Monday 1-3.
