The Halifax Boxing Club Christmas Raffle has been made and the winner is raffle ticket number 2501: Danny Foulds, Halifax Building Society, who has won £500 Pounds for Christmas.

Well done Danny’ and thanks to everybody who bought tickets.

There will be pictures of Danny receiving his money tomorrow on our website.

James First Yorkshire ABA Novice Champion

James First (also known as Jimmy) of Halifax Police Boxing Club becomes the clubs sixth champion in as many years, Jimmy had three fights in three weeks to become Champion of Yorkshire in the novice 64/67 category class A. All the bouts where hard but the final one the hardest with Yorks ABC Joey buckle. The York boxer was the biggest lad Jimmy had fought and a good boxer to boot, but Jimmy worked hard with some great jab work to win unanimously on the judges score cards, well done Jimmy First who now joins the Halifax clubs hall of fame at the old lane base.

James First at the Yorkshire ABA finals

After winning his first fight in the Yorkshire ABA finals last Saturday Jimmy won again on Sunday to reach the final this Thursday at Parsons Cross, Sheffield. It was a Great fight with Jimmy nearly stopping his opponent and storming into the final.

HALIFAX GRAMMAR- Currently have 2 classes a week in the club. Wednesday 2 – 3 & Friday 2-3.

HALIFAX HIGH – Have our coaches taking classes on friday mornings at the school.

POSITIVE FUTURES PROJECT CHALLENGE – Have classes every wednesday in the club from 11-12.

MOUNT PELLON PRIMARY – Have classes in the school every Monday 1-3.

In a very interesting and informative report on Boxing By Paul Sims of the Mail Online – He touches on the introduction of Boxing back into schools in England, and the positive effect it has had on attendance records and behaviour amongst the youth.

Rise in boxing credited with improving behaviour and school attendance

Just over a decade ago it was a sport many thought should be banned.

But after a mini renaissance in the past ten years, boxing is now on the rise and is being credited with improving behaviour and attendance within schools.

The number of people registered with amateur clubs in England has nearly tripled since 2005 and that figure looks set to grow after David Haye won the world heavyweight title ten days ago.

In the past four years alone the number of schools with boxing on the curriculum has soared from 20 to 1,931 and according to the latest national school sports survey boxing is now available in 34 per cent of secondary schools in England.

‘Twelve years ago I considered boxing almost too dangerous to be considered as a mainstream sport,’ said Tessa Jowell, the Olympics Minister.. read more at the Mail Online
